Community First
In the summer of 2011, Community First, Wiltshire and Swindon’s leading charity supporting those living in rural areas, invited MLCM to produce a short film reflecting their diverse range of work.
The film formed part of the charity’s September AGM and needed to provide those attending with a snapshot of Community First’s recent successes, as well as explain why its work remains at the heart of village and small town life – particularly in these straightened times.
MLCM’s film focused on six main areas of Community First’s work, including community planning and parish councils, grant giving, rural enterprise, neighbourhood support and young people.
As well as filming those involved in overseeing the charity’s work in these specific fields, MLCM also met up with those who have benefitted from Community First’s support and expertise, including Project Inspire, The Wyndham Hall in Amesbury and All Cannings Community Shop.
It was an inspiring experience and although MLCM was already very aware of Community First’s work across Wiltshire and Swindon, it wasn’t until filming was over that the true value of their work was fully appreciated.
As MLCM’s self-shoot director and editor James Harrison explained, “although we only looked at six main areas of the charity’s responsibilities, we could easily have made a second film looking at their other success stories.
“Community First is an inspirational organisation and it was a real pleasure to be invited to make this film, especially as we learnt so much in the process of making it.”
As well as filming in Amesbury and All Cannings, MLCM travelled to Great Bedwyn, Urchfont, Teffont and Tisbury during the production.
The film was well-received by those attending the 2011 AGM and will be used by Community First to help explain to others their vital role in preserving Wiltshire and Swindon’s rural communities for the future.
